Licences required
PPL has two separate licences. A Background Music licence covers ambient daily play at a venue. An Event Music licence covers a specific occasion (party, sangeet, conference, club night). PPL licensing authority challenged — SC case pending
Delhi High Court Division Bench (Apr 2025) ruled PPL cannot issue licenses as it is not a registered copyright society, directing it to join RMPL. PPL appealed to the Supreme Court.
